U.K. Stocks Including BP Advance; Astrazeneca Shares Fall

Oct. 6 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks including BP Plc rose as oil traded near a record while AstraZeneca Plc declined.

The benchmark FTSE 100 added 2, or less than 0.1 percent, to 4709.1 as of 8.13 a.m. in London. The FTSE All-Share Index gained 1.76 , or less than 0.1 percent, to 2336.6.

BP Plc, the world's second-biggest publicly traded oil company, advanced as much as 3 pence, or 0.6 percent, to 552 pence.

Together with Russia's state-owned OAO Rosneft, BP said it had discovered ``significant volumes of oil and gas'' at the first well they drilled near Sakhalin Island.

AstraZeneca, the U.K.'s second-biggest drugmaker, fell as much as 12 pence, or 0.5 percent, to 2271 pence. The company said its cholesterol reducer Crestor now has 7.5 percent of new U.S. prescriptions, an increase from the company's last update in July.
