Jan. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Gales and heavy rain are expected later today across southern and central England and may up-root trees, cause flooding and structural damage and disrupt transport, the U.K.'s Meteorological Office said.
The Met Office issued a severe weather warning after it predicted that gusts of up to 90 mph may develop in southeast England with snowfall over central parts of the country.
Motorists in south Wales and southern England were warned that heavy and persistent rain, coupled with strong, blustery winds today will make conditions difficult.
The Met Office also warned of severe gale force winds and localized flooding on the south coast of England and the Isle of Wight, according to a statement on its Web site.
Less severe storms are expected tomorrow and on Wednesday morning, the weather forecaster said.
``After the recent spell of bad weather, we are advising the public to expect stormy conditions this week, which could cause structural damage and localized flooding,'' said chief forecaster Eddy Carroll in the statement.
An update is expected from the Met Office at 9 a.m. today in London.
