May 10 (Bloomberg) -- The world's most-capped rugby player Jason Leonard presented the PricewaterhouseCoopers rugby team with the ``City Sevens'' cup yesterday after a tournament where 32 financial companies raised a record sum for a child charity.
Banks including Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Citigroup Inc., law firms Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Slaughter & May, consultants Accenture and accountants KPMG raised about 15,000 pounds ($26,642) for SPARKS, Sport Aiding Medical Research for Kids, the most the event has raised in 32 years.
``Last year we lost the final to Dresdner, so we're really pleased to win,'' PriceWaterhouseCoopers captain Guy Gillon said after the presentation. ``Now we're going to put the Corporate Amex behind the bar and celebrate.''
There were more than 320 players and 1,000 spectators at the 32nd annual tournament in Richmond Park, south London. Sevens is a form of rugby played between two seven-person teams. The game is played on a full-sized pitch with two seven-minute halves and a minute for half-time. The rules are similar to the full game.
Leonard beat France's Philippe Sella's record of 111 international appearance at last year's World Cup as a member of the winning England team, according to the British Broadcasting Corp. He retired this season, more than 13 years after he made his debut as an England prop.
``Even on a damp cold day in Richmond Park it's good to see we can make such a difference,'' Leonard said.
